Elected Officials Parade Participation Eligibility
The Indianapolis Veterans Day Parade is an apolitical and respectful salute to Indianapolis veterans. Politicians who wish to march in the Parade must be elected/appointed State and municipal legislators who currently represent/serve Indiana residents. This includes US and State Senators and Representatives, and mayors and members of Town/City Council.
Political candidates who have not been elected or appointed to office at the time of the Parade are ineligible to march in their capacity as a candidate for office. However, if they are a veteran they are encouraged to march with their affiliated group (VFW, Korean War Vets, etc.).
No candidate for office, including incumbent candidates, may distribute campaign flyers or paraphernalia or display campaign signage while participating in the Parade.
For safety reasons, distribution of handbills, candy etc. by any Parade participant is strictly forbidden by the City of Indianapolis.
